Interview Me

Are you located in Timbuktu? On vacation in the Caribbean? Have a dead cell phone battery? Don’t worry about it! I’m all about anticipating your next move and making your life easier, so here are my answers to some popular interview questions:

You spent four years studying Political Science. Why are you interested in Public Relations and Marketing now?

The short answer is that Tufts didn’t have a communications curriculum and I really like domestic social policy, so I studied things like housing reform, philanthropy, environmental policy, and the nonprofit sector.

The long answer is that I don’t think they’re mutually exclusive. My political science background taught me to be analytical, and that’s a skill that translates to all careers. I just know that I love working with people. I love communicating. I love thinking critically and strategizing and problem solving.

You may not see the direct ties between the things I learned in class and what I hope to do in the near future, but there is a lot of hidden overlap that I can expose. Political science taught me how to be persuasive, how to write concisely and effectively, and how to do thorough research.

Most importantly, it gives me a unique perspective to bring to the table, and I see that as an advantage.

What’s with this social media obsession of yours? I don’t get it.

Join the club. My friends and family don’t really get it either. The important thing to remember is that I get it. And I can get it for your company or organization too.

You see, social media is all about the power of connecting. It’s about meeting your audience where they are — where they play, where they interact, where they live. It’s about reaching your customers or your donors or your members and providing them with valuable content. From customer service to volunteer recruitment to awareness for a cause, social media is the vehicle to get your message out there.

That’s where I can help. Do you need to establish a corporate blog to relate to your consumers? Want to respond to feedback instantly through Twitter? How about publishing and distributing video of your team to YouTube? Call me. E-mail me. Tweet me. I can help you figure out what’s best for your company, set it up, monitor your metrics, and manage your content.

Trust me, I’m your girl.

Why Atlanta?

Come on, people. This should be a no-brainer.

After spending nearly 23 years living in Pittsburgh, Indiana, Chicago, and Boston, I’m beyond sick of WINTER.

Seriously, what is up with all the snow?

I’m ready to trade in the winter snow for summer sweat, but I’m not quite ready to give up my seasons for year-round palm trees. Atlanta is the perfect happy medium for me, as long as the Braves stop beating my beloved Cubbies.

I also have a pretty severe Diet Coke habit, so I’m hoping that the Coca-Cola headquarters will be able to supply me with my daily fix.

What would you like people to say about you at your funeral?

Ignore the fact that this is a fairly morbid question and just bear with me.

First, I want people to say how much fun I was. They’ll have to discard all those nights that I stayed in and watched re-runs of Criminal Minds, but I don’t think that will be a problem.

I also want them to remember how loyal and genuine I was. I pride myself on being an honest person and a great friend, and I hope I do a good job of living my life that way.

Lastly, I hope they can laugh about all the times I tripped up the stairs or ran into sharp corners, because falling is ALWAYS funny.

I never said I was graceful.

Now it’s time to hit me with YOUR best interview question. Come on, bring it on. I’m ready for the challenge.
